A german u-boat sunk a British ocean liner carrying 159 American passengers. -

Both sides agreed to hold fire on that first christmas of the war and drank together and played soccer and feasted together. -
Zimmerman telegram
The Zimmerman telegram was sent to Mexico and intercepted by Britain. It was from Germany telling Mexico to attack the US and the would get some land back from them. This caused the United States to join the war on the Allies side. -

On this date the United States officilay joined the war against the central powers. -

Russia reaches an armistice because of problemsin within the nation. -

The treaty that officialy ended the war and punished Germany was signed in Paris by Britain, France, and Germany. America did not sign.
