    The battle of ypres included 3 battles. The town of ypres was always under attack by the Germans. In the first battle the British, French and Belgian troops were outnumbered by the Germans who were trying to get to the English Channel. Allies won this battle.During the second battle the germans used new weapons and gases.Germans ended this battle. During the third battle Germans killed a lot of allies with gas and guns. Eventually canadians took the village.

    Was the first major battle of World War One: British troops matched two corps and one cavalry division to the four corps and three cavalry divisions of advancing German forces. The British tried to hold off the German First Army at the Mons-Conde Canal. The French Fifth Army retreated leaving the British troops unsupported. General von Kluck’s men beat back the British troops and causing over 8,000 causalities. This led to a withdrawal of the British troops.

This battle was fought because the British were believed to have had naval supremacy not only in Europe but throughout the world.The major outclash between Germany and Britain was known as the naval race. At the start of the war, Britain was involved in two minor naval clashes – Heligoland and Dogger Bank. The Germans claimed that Jutland was a victory for them as they had sunk more capital ships than the British.

Germany launched an attack on a very important town in France named,Vernun.Some success was achieved by the French. In the end the German Empire lost the most men. (500,000 soldiers)

This happened because German Chief of General Satt Von Falkenhayn wanted to “bleed France white” by launching a massive German attack on a piece of land that was of great historic sentiment for the French. The German attack lasted over 300 days.The Germans had captured 10,000 French prisoners. By the end of April, the Germans had lost 120,000 men and the French 133,000 men. Verdun was a major loss for both sides.

General Charles Mangin of the French army commenced an attack on the German army that was near them on the Aisne. This attack launched a campaign known as the Nivelle Offensive. In this significant battle, the French lost over 150,000 men, causing the battle to be called off as a loss for the Allies.

    Fought on August 18 - September 12, 1917 by the Italian and Austro-Hungarian Armies on the Italian front. The ITalians attack the Austro-Hungarians and after a deadly fight the Austro-Hungarians were exhausted and couldn’t last another attack. Lucky for them so were the Italians they were out of resources. The result of this war turned into an inconclusive bloodbath.

    Fought from October 24 - November 3, 1917 between the Italian Army and the Austro-Hungarian forces. The commander in chief of the Italian army planned an offensive at Vittorio Veneto. The Italian Third Army attempted to cross the river and proved to be victorious at Vittorio Veneto, the Italian army made a move to close the retreat path of the Central troops. On November 3, 1918, armistice was signed and war ended on November 4.

The Germans were taken by surprise and were forced to retreat to Cambrai. However, the British forces couldn’t follow up on their initial success. By the end of the battle there was no decisive victory.

With a little help at the end of the battle from the French, the Americans fought against the Germans who were falling back from St. Mihiel. In all the Americans won, losing over 7,000, while the Germans had over 18,000 casualties.
