Germany wanted to invade France but to get to France Germans would have to go through Belgium first. Belgium was invaded and war was declared on Germany the next day. -
Ottoman Empire Joined the Central Powers
If the Ottoman Empire would've joined the Allies the Central Powers would've been encircled and easier to attack and take over but the Empire decided to join the Central Powers instead. -
Poison Gas
The poison gas blinded or choked its victims causing them to receive burns or blisters. Gas masks were eventually used to protect the soldiers from the gases. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
German submarine torpedoed The Lusitania off the coast of Ireland, killing almost 1,200 passengers. -
Battle of Somme
Known as one of the largest battles in WWI and one of the bloodiest military battles in history. Many, many people were killed on the first day of this four and a half long battle. The British commander eventually ended the battle by calling off his army from France.
