This invasion was one of the largest military assaults in history. The allies fought their way across the Normandy countryside. By the end of June, the allies had taken over the port of Cherbourg. The allies soon succeeded and and entered Germany. -

This invasion was led by the U.S. Iwo Jima was defended by roughly 23,000 Japanese soldiers. It only took a month for the marines to wipe out the defending soldiers and raise the flag. -

In this battle, the japanese used a new tactic called kamakazi. japan suffered a big loss of more than 77,000 soldiers. The allies had suffered more than 65,000 casualties and 14,000 deaths. -

Great Britain and the United States celebrate victory in Europe day. The almost unstoppable Nazi party was finally defeated. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
The U.S becomes the first nation to use an Atomic bomb during wartime. They had dropped it on Hiroshima. This bomb dropping marked the end of World War 2. -
VJ Day
This was the day when Japan formally surrendered.
