Battle of Midway
This was 6 months after Pearl Harbor and the turning point in Pacific. American codebreakers intercepted a Japanese plan to draw out U.S. carriers and flank them. Americans created an ambush that destroyed a four Imperial aircraft carriers that left permanent damage to Japanese Navy. -
Battle of Guadalcanal
Marines held key airfield from Japanese. It’s position ensured key communication between U.S. and Australia and offered sea, air, and land advantages. Both sides suffered heavy casualties. -
Battle of Kursk
⅓ of german troops were concentrated in one area where Russia was able to flank them. Biggest tank battle in WW2. Germans forced to retreat. Russian citizens broke rail lines behind the German lines. This prevented the movement of supplies. The German army was soon exhausted with Russia on their tails. -
Operation Market-Garden
Allies cross from France and Netherlands into Germany. Daylight drop behind enemy lines were accurate and supposed to converge on multiple bridges. The operation was a failure from casualties and MIA's.
