The Battle of Stalingrad stopped the Germans from advancing into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the Allies. This battle had around 2 million casualties making it the most bloody in the war. -

The Battle of Normandy happened in France along the coast and in the countryside. This resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. -

Battle of the Bulge was the last major battle from Germany on the Western Front. This battle had the highest amount casualties for both sides. -

Victory in Europe Day consisted of German troops throughout Europe finally laying down their weapons. This marked the end of the war and a victory for the Allied Powers. -

Dropping Atomic Bombs
American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Hiroshima, Japan. The explosion wiped out 90% of the city. In Nagasaki a second bomb was dropped killing around 40,000 people. Emperor Hirohito announced Japan's surrender because of the bombs in a radio address. -
VJ-Day
Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies which resulted in ending World War II.
