  • Germany attacks Denmark and Norway and taking over half of Europe

    The German forces used the blitzkrieg to overkill their enemies. As a result, Germany had overpowered Denmark and Norway. In fact, Canada and Britain wanted to help Norway but it was too late that the Norway lost to the Germans. Now, Germany's next target is all of Europe; including the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. The German army had defeated all but France really quick and well so they were to takeover France through Belgium to destroy France's wall protection.
  • The Non-Aggression Pact

    On August 23, 1939, Hitler and Joseph Stalin, the Soviet dictator, signed the Non-Aggression Pact. Although, both of them were not Allies, but had suited their purposes. It was dividing up Europe between them. Hitler had basically used Stalin so then his navy would not be attacked by the Soviet when attacking Poland.

    Hitler's next attention to take over a new country, East Prussia also known as the land of Poland. Hitler ordered his navy to fight Poland's troops in order for a takeover. The British and the French says they would support Poland so then they declared that they would have a war with the Germans if they attacked Poland. As a result, the Germans did.

  • The Starting of World War 2

    World War 2 started when the German army invaded and attacked Poland. This resulted the British and the French to declare war with the Germans. And the war had officially begun on September 3, 1939.
  • Canada decides to join the war

    The Prime Minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King, believed that Canada can decide by itself to join the war. As a result, on September 10, 1939, Canada declares a war with Germany after Britain and France had declared. On December 1939, the 1st Canadian troops arrived at Britain without proper training and very few war equipment, so they were trained for a few months before fighting. Between September to May of 1939, the war 'phony war' began.

  • The Battle of Great Britain

    The Battle of Great Britain was on July 10 at Britain. Adolf Hitler ordered his troops to attack the English Channel; He sent out his troops with Luftwaffle to destroy all aircraft factories, airfields, and radar stations in Britain. Hitler knew his Luftwaffle would make the RAF fighters weaker since their RAF was half the size of the German air force making it weaker than the Luftwaffle. This battle included the Canadian troops and other Allied countries.

    Canada had sent out pilots, radar personnel, and other supplies that Britain needed. 100 Canadian pilots were fighter operators while the other 200 pilots flew to bomb lands. As the German troops that bombed London, the Royal Air Force fighters bombed Berlin. This resulted many nights of cities getting bombed and many people that died.

    Furthermore, the British and the Canadians seeked out radar information for their pilots; they had a better direction system to guide the pilots than the Germans. By May 1941, the Battle of the Britain was over and that Britain were safe; Hitler began to focus more on Russia.

    Japan wanted the Southeast Asia's natural resources and it viewed the Americans with the strongest navy. So, in December 7 1941, Japan bombed the Pearl Harbor with 2403 American killed, 14 warships and 347 aircraft damaged. This resulted the American to join the Allies. And later on the Battle of Hong Kong occurs.

    In the Southeast Asia on 1941, Japan had declared a war with Hong Kong and Great Britain. Also Canada declared war with Japan. The 1975 young Canadian soldiers played a role in this battle to join Britain and other Commonwealth troops. However, the British and Canadian success were not so well because the 50,000 Japanese soldiers were so fierce that their forces captured the airport. As a result, the Allies’ lost their air support then they had surrendered on Black Christmas of 1941.

    This has resulted the Allies losing only 24 ships and the German U-boats with 55 lost. At the end of the war, Allies are on the same equal basis as the Nazis and Canada has the 3rd largest navy in the world. And as a result, Canada became one of the foremost Allied power in the Atlantic war.
  • The Battle of the Dieppe Raid

    On August 19 1942 at 4:40 A.M., the Battle of Dieppe Raid occurred because the Allies felt the force for Germans to change their military resources away from Soviet Union and they could result the Allies overpowering the Germans. Canada came to this battle because the Allies decided that they could overcome the raid. So about 5000 Canadian troops were sent to the French port of Dieppe to fight against the Germans.

    In addition, the Germans were ready to fight when the Canadian just landed causing them to be frightened. However, the Allies lost their lives when the German army shot them on shore. Also, their tanks were bogged down on the rocky beach causing no attacks with it. Furthermore, the battle the battle gave 4963 Canadians to sacrifice with 907 killed, 587 wounded, 1946 were captured and taken into POW camps.

    On June 1943, the Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle in the war. The German U-Boats travailed in groups killing thousands of allied cargo ships. In fact, the Canadians played an important role by supporting Britain with supplies and the USSR across the Atlantic. They protected the convoys in their ships and planes and in 1942, more than 900 ships were lost. The Allies gained more experience, better training, and undersea detection of submarines had improved.

    The Allied forces surrendered the Italy's dictator making the German army to take over. The Canadians wanted to capture Ortona on the Adriatic Sea and when they reached to Ortona, they battled the Germans street-by-street. As a result, Canada succeeded to capture the city of Ortona. Thus, many Canadian lives are claimed in the Italian campaign.

    On June 5,1944, the Allied leaders created the D-Day. The Allies tricked Germany of where they are heading for their invasions saying they’re going to Calais but instead, they’re heading for Normandy. On June 6, ships started to move American, British, and Canadian troops to Normandy. Canadians who took part of the Operation Overload, faced the strong German defences.

    The German defenders didn’t know about this and was given a complete surprise. And as a result of the Canadians that faced the German defences, they managed to fight successfully and only 340 Canadians were killed, 574 were wounded and 47 were captured. Canada was important on the D-Day because they helped the Allies to destroy Germany so they could get back the territory the Germans had held forever.
  • The Battle of the Scheldt

    The Battle of the Scheldt, Belgium and the Netherlands, was controlled by the Germans. In 1944, The First Canadian Army was to remove the Scheldt of the Germans out. In fact, Canada won in the Battle of the Scheldt resulting in freeing the Netherlands out. As of February 8 1945, 175,000 Canadian joined the Rhine Offensive. The Canadians were important in this battle because they rescued the countries that were controlled by Germany and moved Germany back to the Northern area.
  • VE Day

    On April 30 1945, Hitler committed suicide and on May 7, the German forces surrendered. This resulted the Allied leaders to say the Victory in Europe Day will be on May 8 since then the war in Europe was over.
  • The War Ends

    As the VE Day passed, the atomic bomb on Japan occurred because they were expanding its land. However, the Americans entered the war in 1941 and then dropped bombs on 58 Japanese cities. On August 24, 1945, Japan surrendered. On September 2 1945, this is when World War 2 ends!
