  • Blitzkrieg of Poland

    Germany invades Poland using Blitzkrieg which were fast moving troops supported by air power. Also, the Soviets invaded from the East, so Poland and its outdated military did not stand a chance. After this happened, Britain and France declared war on Germany
  • The Battle of the Atlantic

    The longest militray campaign in Worl War 2, running from 1939 to the defeat of Germany in 1945. It pitted U-boats and the Luftwaffe against the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Navy, and Allied merchant shipping. The Germans failed to stop the flow of supplies to Britain.
  • German Invasion into France

    Germany blitzes into France and drives a wedge between British and French troops. They force Britain to evacuate 340,000 troops from Dunkirk, France to Britain. Germany takes over Britain.
  • Battle of Dunkirk

    The Battle of Dunkirk was between the Allies and Germany. It was the defense and evacuation of British and allied forces. The advancing German army trapped the British and French armies on the beaches around Dunkirk. Hitler's failure to launch a full scale attack was his first fatal mistake of the war
  • Battle of Britain/ Operation Sealion

    Germany begins bombing British airfields. Britain's Prime Minister Winston Churchill tried to rally the British people, whil gaining foreign aid and support. Due to the German Spitfire, RADAR, using blackouts, keeping morale high, and the Germans getting desperate, Hitler temporarily gave up on the invasion.
  • The Battle of El Alamein

    Fought on the northern coast of Egypt between the Axis forces and the Panzer Army Africa against the Aliied Forces. It halted a sencond advance by the Axis forces into Egypt.
  • Pearl Harbor

    360 Japanese planes attack Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Us lost 19 ships, 150 planes, and 2400 soldiers. In addition, Japan attacked bases on Guam, Midway, Wake Island, and Philippines. On Decmember 8th Congress votes for war on Japan, and on the 12th, USA declares war on the Axis.
  • Battle of the Philippines

    The invasion of the Philippines by Japan and the defense on the islands by Filipino and Unites States forces. Even though the defending forces outnumbered the Japanese invaders by 3 to 2, they were unexperienced which led to their loss.
  • Battle of Bataan

    The most intense phase of Japan's invasion of the Philippines. The capture of the Philippine Islands was crucial to Japan's effort to control the Southwest Pacific. It was the largest surrender in American and Filipino military history.
  • The Doolittle Raid

    An air raid by the Us on Tokyo, which was an important boost to US morale, and damaged Japanese morale. The raid was plannes by Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle.
  • The Battle of Coral Sea

    The Japanese wanted to cut off shipping lanes between US and Russia, and they also set up for an invasion of Australia. A 2- day air- battle results. It was the first naval battle fought in the air, and Japan was forced to retreat.
  • The Battle of Midway

    The Japanese thought that Midway was the stepping stone to capturing US mainland, but US code breakers learn of attack and Admiral Chester Minntz prepares to defend Midway. It was a loss for Japan, and they lost the ability to fight an offensive war on US
  • The Battle of Stalingrad

    Hitler targeted the city of Stalingrad in Russia to cut off the Soviet's from their vital resources. The Russians won the battle, which was a major turing point in the war
  • The Battle of Kursk

    The German offensive, Operation Citadel, sought to destroy large Soviet forces near the Russian city of Kursk. The Germans were countered by the Russians, that quickly beat the German army. For Russia, the victory gave them the initiative to fight the rest of the war.
  • The Battle of Sicily

    A major campaign in which the Allies took Sicily from the Acis Powers. The Allies drove Axis air, land, and naval forces from the island which opened the Mediterranean sea lanes and Benito Mussolini was no longer in power. It opened the way to the Allied invasion of Italy
  • The Battle of Salerno

    To make sure it was a surprise, the Army decided to invade without naval of aerial attacks. s the first wave of US soldiers approached the shore a loudspeaker from the landing area said: "Come on in and give up. We have you covered." The allied troops then attacked.
  • The Battle of Anzio

    The Allies landed in Italy against German forces in Anzio. It was very controversial because Lieutenant General Mark Clark changed his plan.
  • DDay

    Troops landed in Normandy, France on 60 miles of beaches, not where Germany expected we would be. It was mostly an easy invasion due to surprise. At the end of the day 10,700 allied were dead, but we had control of the beaches, a second front was created, and the Allies launched a second invasion on Southern France
  • Operation Dragoon

    Invasion of Southern FranceThe landing of the US and French armies made the Germans abandon southern France and retreat to the Vosges Mountains
  • The Battle of Bastogne

    Battle between US and Geman forces at the Belgian town of Bastogne. The goal of the Germans was the harbor at Antwerp, and to get it they had to seixe roadways througheastern Belgium.
