An attack made by Japans Navy Air Service on Americas Naval base at Pearl Harbor in, Honolulu Hawaii. The attack was made because of the U.S. oil embargo on Japan. Japans goal was to destroy the American fleet and have a severe blow to U.S Morale. Japan planned on this attack for a year and had an elaborate plan. This resulted in U.S losing 8 battle ships. -

The Japanese were resilient and went back and forth with the U.S. many marines that first landed there were stuck there to fight for 6 months U.S gained complete control in February 1943. 31,000 Japanese soldiers were lost and only 7,100 of the allied forces. -
Doolittles Raid
This was a raid made by the U.S. on Tokyo Japan, 16 U.S bombers came in, they did little damage but boosted american morale. -
Manhattan project
The Manhattan project was a project to produce the nuclear bombs that would be used on Japan. There were many locations involved and many workers.scientists and engineers from universities were working on the bomb. The bomb was created in mainly in Los alamos. Truman had no knowledge of the project until Roosevelt died. Thats how secret the project was. -

Unconditional surrender was necessary for the allies war to end with Japan and Germany. Unconditional surrender would be that the japan and germany surrender unconditionally and have no say in what happens when the war ends they get no guarantees. Roosevelt called for unconditional surrender with Japan. -

Operation Fortitude
This is an operation of deception made by the Allied nations to deceive the Germans. The British allies wanted to trick the Germans into thinking they would invade at a different location by setting up fake aircraft and tanks in the south of fortitude while the north had real tanks and planned for D day in Normandy. -
Operation Overlord
Operation overlord was the allies landing in Normandy and referred to as D-Day Normandy was occupied by France but the allies came out successful. This was the largest amphibious attack by the american and British and Canadians on German defense. By late august northern France was liberated. -
