    The Austrian Ansuchluss
    Hitler called unification for all German speaking people. Hitler believed Germany should expand only by force and since Austria had a large population of German speaking people he invaded. After the invasion was all over Hitler announced ansuchluss witch means unification.
  • The Munich Conference

    The Munich Conference
    Hitler wanted Czechoslovakia because of the German speaking people. Britain and France want to avoid war so they agree with Hitler's demands at the Munich conference. They made concessions in exchange for peace. The appeasement failed to preserve peace and Germany sends troops in 1939 and divided the country. Slovakia became independent and under German control and Czech was a German protectorate.

    Hitler Demands Danzig
    A month after the Munich conference Hitler demanded the city of Danzig to return to German control. Hitler requested a railroad across the polish corridor. it separated western Germany from the German state of east Prussia. this convinced Britain and France that war was inevitable. Britain states in march 1939 that if Germany attacks Poland, Britain and France will aid Poland. this encourages Poland to refuse Hitlers demands. in may 1939 Germany prepared to invade Poland.

    German officials proposed a non aggression treaty with the soviets and Stalin hoped that the treaty would work and Germany would go to war with Britain and France so the USSR would be safe. Hitler made the deal to free himself of war with their countries. the treaty also contained a deal to divide Poland between Germany and the soviets. on September 1st Germany invaded Poland and Britain and France declared war on Germany.

    Poland bravely resisted German forces but they had an outdated army. they road horses and carried lances. they were going face to face with German tanks. Germany also used new type of warfare where they use large numbers of massed tanks to break through enemy lines encircling them. waves of aircraft bombed enemy positions and dropped paratroopers to cut their supply line. Poland could not hold back the German army. on October 5th Germany had defeated Poland.

    The Fall Of France
    after world war 1 the french set up the Maginot line. this was series of bunkers to protect France from Germany. when Germany wanted to attack France he went around the Maginot line and into Belgium. the British and french raced north into Belgium. Germany had sent their tanks through the mountains and the french only had a few troops defending that part of the boarder. Germany moved west along the English channel cutting off the french army from France. both armies were trapped in Belgium.
  • The Evacuation Of Dunkirk

    The Evacuation Of Dunkirk
    Britain and France needed to evacuate their troops from Belgium and the only port they could use was Dunkirk. Hitler ordered his forces to stop and he thought that the British would be more willing to accept peace if they did not humiliate them. this ave Britain a three day delay for them to strengthen their lines and begin evacuation. Britain evacuate 338,000 troops but had left thousands of equipment behind. three weeks later Hitler accepted the french surrender.

    Hitler expected Britain to surrender after France but Winston Churchill the new prime minister gave a speech in parliament. he stated that Britain would never surrender. this was meant to rally the British people and notify the united states of their problems. Hitler wanted to invade Britain but new he had to defeat their air force. the German air force began to attack British shipping and launched an all out air battle to destroy the royal air force.
