France Fell
After conquering Poland, Germany attacked France and France fell in 1940 -
Stalingrad
4 million troops poured over the Russian border. Within one months, over two million Russians were wounded, captured or were killed. The Germans made tremendous advances into Russia. Canada was involved in this battle because they fought alongside the allies and lost more troops per capita than the US. -
Holocaust
Hitler put an end to the program in August 1941 but killings of the disabled continued in secrecy. Canada's involvement toward the holocaust is that Canada assumes chairmanship of the Internation Holocaust Remembrance Alliance -

Canada sent two battalions where they had taken part in the hopeless defence of Hong Kong against the Japanese. -
Battle of Midway
Japanese armies rolled over Southeast Asian following the attack on Peal Harbor. The war in the Pacific was fought on land, at sea, and in the air. On June 1942, a turning point occured at the Battle of Midway. The US destroyed hundreds of Japanese planes and regained control of the Pacific. -

D-Day
General Dwight Eisenhower led US and Allied troops in an invasion of Normandy, France. The armies fought their way through many countries including France, Belgium, and into Germany while Russian troops fought from the east. In May, Germany surrendered. The military gave Canada a major role on D-Day. They took one of the five designated beaches where allied forces were to land to begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany. The Canadians had Juno beach. -
Germany
On May 7th, 1945, Germany had surrendered. -
Hiroshima
The Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima whch killed about 78,000 people and injured 100,000 more. Even though Canada had no direct role in the bombing incident, they were an active partner in the researching and development of the bomb. -
Nagasaki
A second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki in Japan which killed another 40,000 people. Canada was an active partner in researching and developing the bomb.
