Why:Forces of Hitler were trying to push through the english channel when allied forces arrived.

Why:Japan was getting torn apart so they issued a surrender.

What:It is a holiday celebrated to represent acceptance of allies.
Why:Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces.
Impact: It meant an end to nearly six years of a war that had cost the lives of millions. -

Why:Advisors wanted Truman to quickly end the war or it would end with horrific american casualties.

Impact:The Japanese lost 120,000 troops in the defense of Okinawa, while the Americans suffered 12,500 dead and 35,000 wounded.
