Hitler saw that France was not attacking so he took advantage of that and used the blitzkrieg method and stormed into France and took it. Once he trapped the british and French at Dunkirk, he had little resistance from the rest of the country. -

The Germans wanted to invade the English mainland so they started to bomb the RAF airfields and limited the English air capability, but the RAF launched a air raid on German cities, and Hitler started bombing civilian targets which allowed the RAF to rebuild and fight off the Germans. -

The japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S.A and then we entered the war against japan, then German declared war on the U.S.A -
Stalingrad
When Hitler invaded the U.S.S.R he pushed more in the south because he wanted to get the oil in the south of the U.S.S.R. The Soviets defended the city fiercely, eventually the Soviet pushed the Germans back and all the way to Berlin. -
