10 Jul 1940 After Germany defeated France in 1940 it turned its attention to Britain. The small German Navy was no match for the British Navy, so Germany could not invade the island of Britain unless it controlled the air. Beginning in July 1940 the German Airforce (Luftwaffe) tried to destroy the RAF (Royal Airforce). Initially, It was successful, but with the help of many Canadian pilots the RAF prevailed against the much larger German Airforce using radar and courage. -
