Concentration camp Dachau is opened by the Nazis along with others this was around the start of the Holocaust where around six million Jews were killed. -
Germany invades Poland
This was the start of the war. Britain and France ordered Germany out when they did not listen they declared war. -

Canada decides to enter in the war against Germany. -

A boat of Jewish refugees were denied entry into the country of Canada among other places. They had to return to Europe where many of them later died -

Canada agrees to host the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) which instructed pilots. -
Evacuation of Dunkirk
Allied troops trying to evacuate before Germany captured the town. -
Frances Surrenders
Germany proved to be to much for Frances army. -
Battle of Britain
A bombing campaign that was meant to stop German's air superiority. 23,000 people were killed. -
Operation Barbarossa
Hitler launched an attack on the Soviet Union breaking non- aggression pact. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese bombed the U.S. naval base in Pearl Harbor on Hawaii. Americans faced devastation 2400 people were killed. -
U.S. Joined Allies
The U.S. joined allies and declared war with Japan. Japan's allies declared war with the Untied States everyone was at war now. -
Battle of Hong Kong
Japan attacked Hong Kong. Canadian troops that were stationed there were outdone by the Japanese . It took 18 days for the fall of Hong Kong this became known as the Black Christmas. Everyone was taken prisoner or killed. -
The Dieppe Raid
This attack was to hit four points of the French Port of Dieppe. This was a failure they ran into German convoy which gave away their approach they also landed in plain daylight. Many died, 907 Canadians were killed 600 wounded. -
Battle of Sicily
Allies invaded Sicily, they fought through mountain terrain. Victory was found after 38 days. Mussolini was overthrown and Italy surrendered. -
Battle of Ortona
Canadians captured the town after passing through many small villages. Germany eventually surrendered but not after 6000 Canadians were killed. -
D- Day Normandy Invasion
A full scale invasion of Europe by the Allies. This secret attack was successful Germans had a poor defence. -
Battle of Rhineland
Allies tried to drive Germans over the Rhine river and out of Netherlands. Germans drew back on March 10th. -
Victory in Europe
Germany was being attacked from the north, west and east. They surrendered to the Allies. Hitler killed himself in a bunker in Berlin before being caught. Victory Day in Europe was May 8 -
End of War
The Manhattan project which developed an atomic bomb that was dropped in Japan caused tons of casualties and forced the Japan to surrender. The war was over but countless people died and things would never be the same.
