    Hitler becomes Chancellor
    Through criticism of the Treaty of Versailles and Communism, Hitler became very popular among the people. After gaining support from the people, Hitler was appointed Chancellor. After this, Hitler used his power to become a totalitarian dictator.
  • Nuremburg Laws created

    Nuremburg Laws created
    The Nuremburg Laws dramatically changed the lives of Jews living in Nazi Germany. These laws esentially stripped the Jews of any social class or power. Jews could no longer be doctors, lawyers, or governmental employees.
  • Munich Conference

    Munich Conference
    This conference was held between Hitler, and the leaders of Italy, France and the UK. An agreement was reached that Hitler could annex the Sudentland, as long as he stopped his invasion there and didn't invade anywhere else. This agreement was signed by all 4 leaders. However, Hitler ended up violating the agreement by annexing Czechslovakia.

    Germany Invades Poland
    On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. The Polish army was defeated within weeks of the invasion. From East Prussia and Germany in the north and Silesia and Slovakia in the south, German units, with more than 2,000 tanks and over 1,000 planes, broke through Polish defenses along the border and advanced on Warsaw in a massive encirclement attack. This started World War II.

    Germany invades Russia
    German troops advanced from the west and south. A third group moved in from the North. This German attack was very intense, with thousands of troops, tanks, and aircraft. The intensity of this attack threw Stalin off guard.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japanese forces attacked a United States military post located in Hawaii. This attack was to prevent the United States navy fleet from interfering with Japanese pacific invasion plans of Southeast Asia. This attack was important to many Americans because of the fact that it was on our nation's turf. This sparked war support from the American public.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Considered to be the most important battle in World War 2, this battle took place in Stalingrad Russia. Germany split their troops in half. Half were to invade the city, and the other half were to capture oil fields on the outskirts of Stalingrad. The German forced ended up surrendering, which ended the 5 month war.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Allied forces stormed the beaches of France. 2 fleets were American forces, and 2 fleets were British forces. These beaches were heavily armed. The beaches were invaded by air strikes, followed by thousands of boats which dropped troops off on the beaches. This victory solidified the Allied presence in Europe.
  • Hitler Commits Suicide

    Hitler Commits Suicide
    With the death of Hitler, the death of Nazi Germany soon followed. Hitler had destructed much of Europe, leaving ruins in his path. Hitler commited suicide mainly because of the manor of Mussolini's death, but also because of the destruction of the Third Reich. The body of Hitler was burned to prevent disrespect.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    "Little Boy" and "Fat Man", which were the names of the atomic bombs dropped on Japan, were ordered by President Truman. These bombings caused the surrender of Japan. The death toll of these two bombs was over 200,000. The bombings also prevented invasion of Japan, which, in turn, saved many American lives who could have died in combat when invading Japan.
