France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
Britain and France declare war two days following the invasion of Poland. France presented Germany with a lovely ultimatum basically saying that France would go to war, unless they were able to pull 1700 troops out of Poland. This was an impossible deadline so, therefore, France ended up declaring war. Britain was forced to declare war in a very similar fashion -
Germany invades and soon after takes control of Denmark and Norway
Hours after the invasion had begun, the German Minister Oslo was alread asking Norway if they were ready to surrender. Norway's Government said not in a million years, Germanys response was with a parachute invasion. Norways Militia refused to accept German rule and continued to fight alongside the allied British. In the end, the strong German Miltia caused Britain to withdrawl thousands of troops. In turn, Germany overran the French resulting in a German victory. -

Upon entering the war, Italy became a member of the axis powers in turn fighting along side germans. Entering the war for Italy ment something different than aiding Germany. Italy, Germany, and Japan sign what is known as the Tripartite Pact
Italy, Germany, and Japan signed what is known as the Tripartite Pact; creating the Axis Alliance. The pact provided mutual protection should any of the Axis Alliance fall under attack. This pact was a warning shot at America basically saying that they should think twice about who they decide to become allies with. -
Japan attacks the US Navy in Pearl Harbor
Japan attacks the US Navy at Pearl Harbor, in turn forcing the US to enter the war on the side of the Allies. This dreaded day in December will live in infamy. Fore Japanese Bombers claimed 2,300 American lives. A total of twelve battleships were either badly damaged or were sunk, 160 aircrafts were destroyed, all adding to Americans stepping up like men and fighting for the good of their country. -
Battle of Midway
The US Navy defeats the Japanese Navy at the Battle of Midway marking a turning point in the war. The Japanese had planned to capture Midway and use it as a base as well as to destroy some of the US Pacific Fleet. The secret to our incredibley fortunate win was that we surprised the Japanese Vessels, sinking all four ships that bombed pearl harbor. -
Hitler commits suicide
Adolf Hitler commits suicide as soon as it becomes clear that Germany has lost the war. He does this by consuming a cyanide capsule followed by shooting himself in the head. Since 1943 it was becoming clear to Germany that they would soon be overran by the Allied forces. On April 30, Hitler finally believed this to be true. -
US drops Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima
The US drops an Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. This absolutely devastated the city, aproximately 80,000 people died as a direct result of the blast. The people that survived the blast, but yet were still exposed to it, died in the following five years as a result of radiation poisoning. President Truman didnt originally want to kill over 100,000 innocent people, but decided this was the best route due to the simple fact that MORE American lives would be saved. -
Japan surrenders
In the early morning, more than fourteen days after accepting the Allies terms, Japan surrendered to US General Douglas MacArthur and the Allies. Therefore, ending a six year war, that will forever be remembered in history. The Superpower characteristics of America begin to be noticed.
