Battle of the Atlantic begins with the sinking of the SS Athenia by a German submarine
The S.S. Athenia was the first British ship to be sunk by Nazi Germany in the War. The ship was built by the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Ltd., and was launched at Govan, Scotland in 1923.
The German submarine saw the ship driving in a zigzag course, so they thought it was a troopship, Q-ship or a armed merchant ship. So when they came close the German ship fired two torpedoes, one hit and the other one missed.

The Battle of the Atlantic was when Europe was supplying Canada with supply’s, but Germans were destroying the ships or capturing them, so finally Canada caught on with what Germany was doing. -
Canada declares war on Germany.
Many Canadians were shocked to hear about Canada declaring war on Germany, because they remembered all the lives that were lost in World War 1.
When Canada declared war in 1939, the army only had about 10 000 soldiers. Because of the depression, the Canadian government cut back on military spending, with only $35 million. The army only had 14 tanks, 29 Bren guns, 23 anti-tank rifles, and 5 small mortar guns. The navy had 10 operational vessels and the Air Force only had 50 aircrafts.

The first Canadians set sail for Europe, like their fathers before them. Canada sent two fighter squadrons to Britain before the end of 1940, with many more to follow, and the Royal Canadian Navy was at Britain's disposal.

Japan bombs Pearl Harbour
At 7:02 am two Army operators at Oahu's northern shore radar station detect the Japanese air attack approaching and contact a junior officer who disregards their reports, thinking they are American B-17 planes which are expected in from the U.S. west coast. The Americans are taken completely by surprise.
The first attack wave targets airfields and battleships. The second wave targets other ships and shipyard facilities. The air raid lasts until 9:45 a.m.

Canada battles Hong Kong
The Canadians at Hong Kong fought against overwhelming odds and displayed the courage of seasoned veterans, though most had limited military training. They had virtually no chance of victory, but refused to surrender until they were overrun by the enemy. Those who survived the battle became prisoners of war (POWs) and many endured torture and starvation by their Japanese captors.

The Canadians attack Dieppe
The plan was for the Allies to launch an attack, create havoc among the German defences in the Dieppe sector and then withdraw - all within the space of about nine hours, the time the tide would allow ships to come close into the shoreline. Such a raid needed perfect planning and the element of surprise if it was to succeed.

Germany agrees to uncondishinl surrounder. Now only Japan is a threat. -
First atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
This is the mushroom clould from the atomic bomb Little Boy. Little Boy was dropped because Imperial Japan rufused to surrender to the U.S.

Second atomic bomb dropped.
This is the second atomic bombs mushroom cloud Fat Man. When Japan didn't surrender the President declared that a second bomb was to be dropped to stop the war with Japan.
