Invasion Of Poland
The invasion that signaled the beginning of World War 2. The Nazis used a tactic called "Blitzkrieg" which meant to gain victory as qucikly as possible.They closed in on Poland with many soldiers and tanks leaving it vulnerable on all sides. In the matter of 3 weeks, the Germans took over Poland and won a swift victory. -

Battle of the Atlantic
The Atlantic was a huge graveyard for sunken ships, most of them were cargo ships transporting food and supplies. German U-Boats dominated the seas constantly sinking allied warships and cargo ships. -
Beginning of The Phony War
After the nazis succesfully occupied Poland, a long period cease fire began lasting for months without any military conflicts. -
Evacuation of Dunkirk
With the axis advancing through France, the allies find themselves surrounded in a French port called Dunkirk. With no choice but to retreat, the allies found any boat they could find and use them to escape to London. -
North African Campaign
A campaign that prolonged for 3 years. Hitler invades Africa to gain more resources and a strategic positions. -
Battle of Britain
Named "Operation Sea Lion" by Hitler, his plan was to use his Luftwaffe to bomb harbours, shipping facilities, airfields and aircraft factories, but also bombed civilian buildings as well. His goal was to completely destroy the RAF so he could atttack Britain. But despite the higer number of aircraft the nazis had than Britain, they failed to wipe the RAF out. -
Operation Barbarossa
A massive invasion on Russia where the nazis would seize as much land as they can and gained their resources. The nazis only got up to Stalingrad and here is where the Soviet Union halted the German advance. -
Pearl Harbor Attack
The Imperial Japanese empire decides to attempt a swift surprise attack against the US fleet and wipe it out entirely at a naval base in Hawaii. Most of the US capital ships were either sunk or severely damaged. -
Battle of Hong Kong
A battle between Canadian and allied soildiers against battle harden Japanese forces. The battle was a total defeat because of the inexperienced Canadian soldiers chosen to be sent to Hong Kong. -
Dieppe Raid
An assault that ended in disaster, it did not get any allied soldiers anywhere but get gunned downed and blown up by german mortars. This raid was made as a test to see if amphibious assaults were effective. -
Battle of Sicily
An allied invasion that was won quickly and that also led to Mussolini's downfall. -
Battle of Ortona
A battle that was fought in the broken buildings of Ortona against the nazis. -
The Invasion of Normandy (D-Day)
D-Day is the largest amphibious invasion ever assembled in history. There were 5 beaches that the allies landed on, they were called Juno, Utah, Gold, Omaha, and Sword. The US landed on Omaha and Utah, the British landed on Sword and Gold, and Canada landed on Juno. The attack proved to be very successful causing the german defense lines to be pushed back into their homeland. -
Battle of the Scheldt
A battle that for a river beacuse it connected Antwerp to the sea making it a vital location for allies. -
Battle of the Rhineland
Advancing close and closer to Berlin, the allies had to fight the well defended german forces in the Rhineland before moving any further. -
Liberation of the Netherlands
A seperate task given to Canadians, it was a difficult job for them because of the destroyed ports. It took another motnh to successfully liberate the Netherlands. -
Germany Surrenders
Germany's capital Berlin has fallen, Hitler committs suicide in a bunker in Berlin, Germany then surrenders to the allies. -
Atomic Bombs Dropped
The devastatingly destructive bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which were both obliterated. This was the only way to make Japan surrender. -
Japan Surrenders, World War II Ends
Japan surrenders on the USS Missouri Battleship, and thus ends World War II
