    World War 1 started in 1914 and ended in 1918. Germany, Austria - Hungry, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire are the Central Powers. They fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Romania, Japan, and the United States, which were the Allie Powers. There were unprecedented levels of carnage and destruction. In the end, Allie Powers took the win, but more than 16 million people were dead.

    Germans used a chemical weapon with a gas attack on Russian positions during the battle of Bolivia, but low temperatures froze in the shells. The first successful weapon was April 22, 1915.

    Forbes Allan wrote to his father telling him that he saw his brother Andrew over seas several times. Although, he will see him soon, that will be the last time he gets to see his brother over seas, since he will be leaving France shortly. Another thing that Forbes added in the letter was on New Years, they had a fire and it was the first time it didn't rain for a month.

    For Christmas, the solders had a Christmas meal. For the meal there was cream of tomato soup, baked macaroni, cheese, turkey, celery, potatoes, cranberry sauce, salad and stewed corn. This came with pumpkin pie, ginger cakes, and bread and butter. Along with, coffee, cigars, ice cream and entertainment by personnel.

    Forbes wrote to his father that he expects to be out by June 15th, but when their space was all cleaned up, men came to tell them that it was going to be used as a German war camp. Forbes and other soldiers woke up to find 1,000 prisoners in their camp. Although it was the greatest knockout that any of the boys had received, it means that they have to stay 4 more months. Forbes wrote that he was sick and discussed of the army.

    Forbes wrote to his father saying that he got a letter from Scotland. They said he should spend his leave with them and if it is possible, he will try to do this. Forbes wrote that there is nothing that would please him better than to see some of Scotland.

    World War 1 officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, among the Allied Powers with little participation by Germany. I was 15 parts and 440 articles after strict enforcement for 5 years, the French assented to the modification of important provisions.

    Forbes Allan was 24 when he enlisted into the United States Army on December 15, 1917 in Boston, Massachusetts. Before the war, Forbes was just a clerk, until he enlisted. On July 2, 1919 he was discharged from the war, in great physical shape and excellent character. During the war, no wounds were received in service.
