  • Germany started using again submarines to attack.

  • The United States suspended diplomatic relations with Germany

  • The US is alerted about the Zimmermann Telegram.

    Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona would be given as a reward to Mexico for supporting Germany if the US entered the war.
  • The Balfour Declaration.

    The British support the establishment of a
    home for the Jewish people in Palestine
  • The British captured Jerusalem from the Turks.

  • - President Wilson presented his “Fourteen Points” required for peace to Congress

    8 points for territorial issues and securing borders. 5 points for open treaties,
    freedom of seas, free trade, armament reduction, and colonial claims. 14th point: All
    countries should form an alliance (The League of Nations).

  • Allied forces began their final war offensive at Meusse-Argonne.

  • Hungary separated from Austria.

  • Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicated and fled to Holland. The German Republic was proclaimed.

  • The Armistice was signed on the 11th hour/day/month in a railway car in the Compiegne Forest, General Foch’s (France) headquarters.

    German delegates signed the
    Armistice with the Allied Powers to show Germany’s defeat
    acceptance and prevent a new offensive.
  • Yugoslavia was proclaimed an independent state.

  • British and American forces entered Germany.

  • The Treaty of Versailles is signed by representatives of Germany and the Allied Powers.

    The Chinese delegation didn’t sign as a protest for the granting of
    German mines, railroads, and telegraph cables in China to the Japanese. Georges
    Clémenceau (France), Woodrow Wilson (USA), David Lloyd George (Great Britain),
    Vittorio Orlando(Italy), and Hermann Müller (Germany) were amongst the signatories.
    Implemented until January 10, 1920.
  • Germany ratified the Treaty of Versailles

  • President Wilson began touring the US to build support for the Treaty of Versailles.

    The US would defend France from a German
    attack.
  • The Treaty of Sevres ended the war in the Middle East with the Ottoman Empire.

    As a result there was a British-controlled
    Palestine & Iraq, a French governed Syria & Lebanon, and the independent
    Kingdom of Hejaz (Saudi Arabia).
