    Both Germany and France declared war on each other because of the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand. This soon escalated to what is now known as World War 1. This war grew even more because the United States had joined the Allied powers and Bulgaria and Darfur on the central side.

Italy checked their options to see what they would benefit from if they joined one of the sides. Italy then came to decision to join the side of the allies and the reason why is because of the assurances that Italy received from the Treaty of London. Signed in April 1915

    The Germans believed that they didn’t need to go for Russia right away in order to win the war. They needed to attack France and beat them in a major battle on the western front. They believed that a major French loss would push them out of the war.

    When Wilson was re-elected he promised to the United States that with him as president they would not go into war no more. A couple of months later right after he had promised to not go into war, the United States goes into war.

    It was a letter sent to Mexico. They wanted to form an alliance with Mexico so that Mexico could go into war and if that happened the United States would be distracted and Germany would win the war, Germany had announced unrestricted submarine warfare.

    About 14,000 American troops arrived in France. The landing site that the Americans came from had been kept secret due to the submarine warfare. Having the Americans join the war was a huge turning point because the war ended after one year had passed with 2 million American soldiers having assisted the war and more then 50,000 lost their lives.

    An armistice was signed with Russia on one side. And the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Bulgaria, the German empire, and the Ottoman Empire on the other. The armistice took effect two days later.
