Nationalism can be described as a strong loyalty to one's country. A great example is the British Empire (nationalism).

The Rise of Militarism
This philosophy was centered on the strong belief that men in the military had power over civilians (Militarism). Military influence grew in policy making. Germany and Russia greatly showed this practice through out their armies.

Alliances of World War I
Two groups of Europe were created, which formed two sides that fought against each other. The first group was called the Triplet Entente, which included Britain, France, and Russia. The second group was called the Triple Alliance, which included Germany, Austria- Hungary, and Italy.

This had a major impact on World War I. This belief was that there was one powerful nation that ruled over many smaller colonies.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated, which caused Austria- Hungary to use this event as a way to prove questions about nationalism in the Slav nations (history.com) -

This message about the possibility of a Mexico and German alliance is posted all over American newspapers,and that is when the US president, Woodrow Wilson decided to start preparing for war.

The US enters the war
Even though many Americans wanted to remain neutral, the US entered the war with allied Britain, France and Russia. The US was not able to help much, even though they prepared for a while, but the addition of American troops helped their allies (U.S. entered).

Great Depression
This worldwide depression in economy began in the US and spread through out the whole world.
