    Fordham university Germany created a alliance with Austria Hungary and Italy in 1879.the treaty was saying that if one country was attacked by a higher powered country such as Russia, that they will come and help that country fight against the other in war.Later, Russia was brought in to discuss the treaty and be notified on subjects.

    The balkans were first owned by the ottomans but eventually grew angry and revolted. through this many balkan states wanted to unify. Eventually the balkans beat the ottomans but war broke out between serbia and bulgaria. when this cooled down austria-hungary annexed serbia and then serbia was outraged because they just got their independence taken away again. so then the serbians assassinated franz ferdinand heir to the austrian throne. this was the major reason of ww1.

    The country’s would begin to build up military when franz ferdinand was assasinated. The industrial revolution created new weapons like the machine gun, submarines, and steel clad battleships. This made rival countries nervous so then all the countries began to adopt the new technology to outdo the other countries.

    Trench warfare was when armies dug themselves in to defend an area. the first major trench lines were made in 1914 by ther british french and belgians and the germans.
    there was the front line of the trench then the support trench then the reserve trench. all of these trenches were connected by communication trenches and sometimes underground networks.

    The U.S were on the British side, because of simmilar culture and the motherland of the U.S. Many didnt like Germany, because there were rumors that germans were secretly going to try to run the U.S. The Lusitania helped cause the U.S to enter WWI after german U-boats and submarines sunk 2 ships with 120+ passengers on it without any warning (german ships had to warn before sinking ships). This outraged the united states.

    U-boats were very successful during world war 1. One U-boat sunk 3 british cruisers in less than an hour in 1914. The U-boat however, did not become big until 1917. There are 41 types of operational U-boats by the end of world war 1. Also, by the end of the war there were about 375 commissioned U-boats. In january of 1917 german submarines committed the first act of unrestricted warfare. The germans would sink ships using submarines. Many british ships were attacked while trading with allies.

    The Bolshevik Revolution
    The bolshevik party wanted to overthrow the goverment and make one for the proletariat. When lenin came back from being exiled he joined the bolsheviks. Then the bolsheviks convinced people to take land for themselves and ended up defeated by the government. Eventually they took st. petersburg. Then on november 6-7 lenin convinced the bolsheviks to storm the winter palace then they had control.

    This treaty was made by france, britain, and the U.S in 1919. The treaty helped to decide what to do with germany. Territory was taken away from germany, the land was split up between france, belgium, denmark, and czechoslovakia. Also the military of germany was reduced. As a result of the treaty the Germans Were hurt financially. Along with these Germany was also forbidden to try and take over other countries. it created the league of nations to create peace.

    The League of Nations came out after the end of world war 1. The purpose was to ensure that a world war would never occur again among them. They thought the only way to keep the world safe was to make this organization that would ensure safety. After the war many supported the idea of a League of Nations except the U.S who was practicing isolationism. The league of Nations brought the world together.

Eventually Franco had hitler bomb guernica. The germans and italians helped franco to promote fascism. The united states along with great Britian came to support the Republic of Spain during this to stop fascism

    in 1929 the wall street crash created a great depression In the united states. This caused the u.s to remove loans and to stop importing goods to other countries which then caused the rest of the world to go into a great depression. The great depression helped start world war 2 because the people began to listen to hitler because they had no jobs and were poor. When America took their loans out of Germany, the Germans economy crashed and this helped bring hitler to power.

    The Germans were in a struggle after WWI. Economically, a few million people lost their jobs leaving many without anything. The government was collapsing and needed something to help them get back on two feet. It just happens that Adolf Hitler was there with plenty of ideas. However for him to give these ideas they needed to make him chancellor. After he was made chancellor, he wanted to be an absolute ruler of Germany, making new rules. This is how they rose to fascism through Hitler.

    September 1, 1939 germany invaded poland. The germans gained warsaw on september 27 1939. Britain and France declared war on germany on september third, this marked the beginning of ww2. In october of 1939 germany gained full control over german areas in poland.

    In may of 1940 German troops invaded parts of France and attacked british frontlines. The Germans evaded the Frenches powerful frontline and snuck around to heavily bomb the less equiped line of French troops. The germans gave them a beating there. The Frenches main frontlines fell and they had to quickly fall back to the north so they wouldnt be trapped from sea. The French and British fell back to Dunkirk.

    The British and French were being beaten bad and would lose all troops unless evacuated via ships. A british general, came up with the plan of using civilian ships to evacuate all of the soldiers back to England. They successfully transported about 140,000 French troops and 200,000 British troops.

    The Battle of Britain was one of the biggest wars of world war two. The germans wanted to gain control of the English Channel so they could launch to invade england. The war was mainly fought in the air and in water. On July 10th, 1940 the battle began with a fight over The straights of dover. The royal air force for britain had many advantages over the germans air force. German held off invasion after loosing to many plains.

    The Japanese attacked Americans december 7, 1941. A day later America declared war on Japan. On December 11, America declared war on Germany. over 3,500 Americans were killed over a span of 2 hours in the attack of Pearl Harbor. All of America's pacific war ships were sunk or damaged badly in the attack. This attack brought the U.S into world war 2.

    The battle of midway was in june 1942. This battle played a huge role in world war 2. This battle pretty much destroyed japan's naval strength. Midway actually destroyed 4 carriers for the japanese. August seventh 1942 The battle of gaudalcanal began. This island was important because it kept the japanese from invading australia and it kept the sea route from australia to america safe. In december the U.S won and japan withdrew and australia was safe.

    This battle was known to some as the turning point in world war 2. The German army was defeated in this battle, and after they fully retreated. Stalingrad was the main communications and manufacturing in the southern part of russia it also had oil fields. Also, it was named after Russian leader Joseph Stalin. They couldn't afford to lose this city. The Germans surrendered at the end of January 1943.

    On june 6, 1944 American fleets came to eastern Europe to invade France. It was heavily fortified by the Nazi army. There was over 5,000 american ships and 13,000 aircrafts that participated in this “crusade”. Even though many Americans died, about 9,000, 100,000 Americans continued to march on through France to help win the war.

    On march 10th 1945 the U.S continued firebombing tokyo to try to get japan to surrender. The fire bombing killed 100,000 civilians and burned 10 acres of tokyo city. The bombs were made of napalm and magnesium.This destroyed 250,000 buildings and eventually in august japan surrendered after our atomic bombs.

    On may 2nd german forces in italy surrendered.Eventually hitler killed himself. May 8th 1945 hitler was defeated and it was VE-day. People celebrated the end of world war 2. The treaty to end the war was signed on may 7th in General dwight eisenhower's headquarters.

    The united states along with the United kingdom bombed hiroshima and Nagasaki. The reason they did this was they asked Japan to surrender of else the U.S would cause mass destruction, the Japanese ignored it. The bombing happened on August 6-9th. 90,000- 166,000 died at Hiroshima and 60,000-80,000 died at Nagasaki. The U.S named their bombs little boy which bombed Hiroshima along with Fat man which bombed Nagasaki. Six days after the bombing the Japanese surrendered on August 15.

    Victory of Japan day, otherwise known as VJ Day was when the Japanese surrendered August 15, 1945 or for the U.S August 14, 1995 because of time difference. The official signing of the surrender was aboard the USS Missouri on September 2nd 1945. The day of the Surrender signing is known to the U.S as memorial day.
