The original location of the empire was in Asia Minor. They expanded in all for cardinal directions. The capital was Constantinople and it was one of the most powerful empires ever. -

Many different explorers from all different countries in Europe went to go represent their country in the New World. They explored from all the way in Northern Canada to the Southern tip of Africa. they also went around the tip of Africa to India. -

Columbus sailed on his ships, the Santa Maria, Pinta, and Nina. He sailed across the atlantic ocean looking for a different path to India and he came across America. -

The main idea of the Renaissance was a Greco-Roman culture. It was the rebirth of the Greco-Roman knowledge and the birth of the Modern World. There was lots of new art and literature during this time period. -

Creation of the Edict of Nantes
The Edict of Nantes guaranteed religious freedom of worship in France. It was passed by Louis XIII's father. -
English Civil War
Charles I was executed and Oliver Cromwell become Lord Protector of England. Charles II eventually became King and then when he died his brother James II became King. James II wanted all of the power, this angered the Parliament. Mary of Orange, James II's daughter, and William of orange came and took the throne of England. James II fled in exile to France. -
Louis XIV revokes Edict of Nantes
The Edict of Nantes granted Huguenots the right to practice their religion without persecution from the state. Louis XIV wanted control over the people and their religion so he did away with the Edict of Nantes. -
Glorious Revolution
The Glorious Revolution was when William and Mary of Orange came into England to get the throne of England. They made James II leave to go to France. This was a bloodless transfer of power. -
Age of Enlightenment
The 1600's-1700's were known as the Age of Enlightenment in Europe. There were lots of enlightened thinkers scientifically. -
American Revolution
America was fighting England for Independence. France joined in on the american side because they wanted England to lose land and just to fight them in general. -
French Revolution
The ideas of Enlightenment were rejected by the French absolute monarchy. France had many problems including debt from wars and building the Palace of Versailles. Eventually, there were different reigns, including the Reign of Terror and the Great Fear. There was an insane number of deaths during the Reign of Terror. -
Congress of Vienna
The Congress of Vienna was a meeting between the major powers of Europe to re-establish a balance of power in Europe. Balance of power had to be restored do that no one country would have too much power. -
Matthew Perry opening Japan to trade
Matthew Perry negotiated a deal with Japan to keep US sailors safe for trading. Japan opened two ports for the Americans to trade in.
