  • Hobbes published "Leviathan"

    The "Leviathan" gave points that were in favor of a monarchic government against the Parliament that had overthrown the British monarchy.   • Locke published "Two Treaties on Government"

    In the first treaty Locke argued Sir Robert Filmer's religious beliefs saying that Adam had power of his own children, but 'the heir of Adam' controlling all of society was impossible, since proof of relation was impossible. The second treaty says the state of nature in humans is only seen where there's total freedom and equality. This was the first idea proposed that formed a concept for democracy.

  • Montesquieu published "The Spirits of the Law"

  • Rousseau published "The Social Contract"

    Rousseau addressed the relationship between government and the people and defined justice as the people having fair representation in government. The impact of the "Social Contract" being published was having civil laws created that were decided upon by a majority vote.
