This is event occurred in St. Petersburg, Russia, when unarmed people led by Father George Gapon were shot at by the soldiers of the Imperial Guard. This event is apart of the Russian Revolution. It was a significant event because it was considered to be the start of the Russian Revolution. -

Archduke is assassinated in Sarajevo. The Austria-Hungary government saw the assassination as a straightforward attack on the country. Because by of this event, World War I is sparked. -

The battle of midway was a naval battle in the Pacific Theater of WWII, which lasted 4 days. This battle happened 6 months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor and 1 month after the Battle of the Coral Sea. -
D-Day
On D-Day, the U.S and Allied troops were led by General Dwight Eisenhower into an invasion of Normandy, France. The armies fought their way through France and Belgium into Germany, while the Russian soldier fought on the East. On May 7, 1945, Germany decided to surrender. -
Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bomb
Even though the war in Europe ended, the Japanese still fought on. President Truman decided to use a newly developed atomic bomb that was never tested, just to end the war quickly. On August 6, 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, killing about 78,000 people and injuring 100,000 others. 3 days later, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, killing 40,000 people. -

After WWII, Korea was divided by the U.S. This was a war between North and South Korea. This war begun when North Korea invaded South Korea. This is where the U.S wins its first containment against the Soviet. It was a good victory for the U.S. -

The Berlin Wall was a concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin into East and West Berlin. This Wall was constructed by the German Democratic Republic. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
This was a 13 day conflict between the U.S and the Soviet Union concerning middle deployment in Turkey and Italy with resultment of missle deployment in Cuba. The results of this is that the U.S withdrew nuclear mussels from Turkey and Italy also the Soviet U ion withdrew nuclear misses from Cuba. -

This isn’t an international treaty whose goal is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology. This was very I portante during the Cold War because the U.S and the Soviet both agreed to not use nuclear weapons. This was very big because it got rid of the constant fear of being nuked by any country at any time. -
Soviet War in Afghanistan
Insurgent groups known as the mujahideen, as well as smaller Maoist groups fought a war against the Soviet Army as well as the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan government.The mujahideen groups were allied with the U.S, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. This made this a Cold War Proxy War. Between 562,000 and 2,000,000 civilians were killed. Millions of Afghans fled the country as refugees. They fled mostly to Pakistan’s and Iran. -
Nelson Mandela
He was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist. He was also the President of South Africa. His government focused on destroying the legacy of the apartheid. Nelson Mandela was a leader of both peaceful protests and armed resistance. Nelson Mandela was a a devoted champion for peace and social justice in his own nation and around the world until his death in 2013 at the age of 95. Nelson was sentenced life in prison for trying to overthrow the state. -
Iraq War
This was an armed conflict that started in 2003 with the invasion of Iraq by the U.S. The U.S went to war in Iraq because of the WMD and terrorism in the Middle East. This war was started by Saddam Hussein because of the use of chemical weapons and attacks on third-country oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. -
Civil War in Syria
This is a armed conflict fought in Syria between the Ba’athist Syrian Arab Republic led by President Bashar al-Assad, with its allies and other forces going against both the government and each other in different combinations. This war is still going on today.
