    Signing of The Kellogg-Briand Pact
    Japan, along with 14 other nations signed the Kellogg-Briand pact, which was drafted by the United States and France. The pact was made in the hope that the nations who signed wouldn't resort to violence, and instead use diplomacy to help stop aggression between nations.

    Alliances Begin Forming
    In October, Hitler and Mussolini formed an alliance known as the Rome-Berlin Axis, after Mussolini learned about Hitler's rapidly growing strength. This is the beginning stages of the formation of the Axis Powers, as shown by Japan entering a month later and creating this original trio that carried into the beginning of the war.     Japan and China at War
    Japan and China are at full war with each other due to a border incident. Japan invades Northern China and defeats China’s less trained army. Japanese soldiers capture many northern cities as well as killing tens of thousands of chinese soldiers and civilians in Nanjing. As this is going on Chinese leader Jiang Jieshi establishes a new capital in Chongqing.

  • Germany Starts Attacking

    Germany Starts Attacking
    Hitler launched his surprise attack also known as the Lightning Attack. German troops crossed the Polish border quickly to bomb the Polish capital, Warsaw. The Lightning Attack Blitzkrieg: used airplanes and tanks followed by infantry forces. On September 3 France and Great Britain responded by declaring war on Germany. On September 17th Stalin sent troops to occupy the eastern half of Poland. Lithuania, Lativa, and Estonia fell without struggle.

  • France and Britain Respond

    France and Britain Respond
    In early May, Germans took over the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. German forces trapped the French Allies outside the city of Lille and forced the to Allies retreat to Dunkirk. Hitler sent troops through Ardennes and reached France's northern coast in a matter of ten days. Towards the end of May Great Britain came to save the French by sending 850 ships to France’s rescue in hopes to save the Allie forces.

  • The Fall of France

    The Fall of France
    The Germans took control of Paris on June 14, a large turning point in the war. On June 22, French leaders surrendered to German rule. Germany took over the northern part of the country while Marshal Philippe Pétain was left to rule the southern half of the country.   • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    Japan launches a surprise attack on the United States fleet of battleships in Pearl Harbor. The Japanese damaged and sunk 19 ships, killed 2,300 Americans, and left more than 1,100 people wounded. President Roosevelt declares war on Japan, and the United States enters World War II.
