Pearl Harbor
Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese destroyed about 20 American naval vessels, including 8 enormous battleships, and almost 200 airplanes. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. -
U.S. Declares War On Japan
President Franklin Roosevelt asks Congress to declare war on Japan. This all started from the attack on Pearl Harbor. -

US forces retook the island of Guam after weeks of fierce fighting. There was over 7,000 Americans dead or injured and over 18,000 Japanese killed. -
Battle of Philippines
It was 1,600 miles away from Japan, U.S. worked to regain control of the Philippines. There was 14,000 wounded from the U.S. There was 336,000 Japanese killed and 12,000 prisoners. -
Battle of Leyte Gulf
It was the Largest Nava battle in history. There was 3 Naval engagements off the cost of the Philippines. The U.S. destroyed most of the Japanese fleet. Japanese losses included four aircraft carriers, three battleships, six heavy and four light cruisers, and eleven destroyers, along with several hundred aircraft and over 10,500 sailors. -
Planned Invasion of Japan (Operation Downfall)
The US planned to send at least 22 divisions, 1.5 million combat soldiers, with 3 million in reserve, against 1 million Japanese defenders on the main island of Honshu (Tokyo). -

Japan Surrenders
Japan was destroyed. U.S. had defeated them and they signed on behalf of the Japanese goverment to end the war. Japan had surrendered.
