    Kiran Bedi was born on June 9, 1949, in Amritsar, Punjab, India. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in English from Government College for Women, Amritsar, in 1970, and later pursued a Master’s degree in Political Science from Punjab University, Chandigarh, in 1972.
  • Career in Indian Police Service(1972-2007)

    In 1972, Kiran Bedi became India’s first woman to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). From 1993 to 1995, she served as Inspector General of Prisons, introducing major reforms in Tihar Jail, such as education, meditation, and vocational training for inmates. In 2003, she became the first woman to be appointed as United Nations Civilian Police Advisor. After 35 years of service, she took voluntary retirement from the IPS in 2007.
  • Post-IPS Career and Social Activism(2007-2016)

    In 2007, Kiran Bedi founded the India Vision Foundation, an organization focused on prison reforms and rehabilitation programs for inmates and their children. In 2011, she actively participated in the India Against Corruption movement, led by Anna Hazare, advocating for anti-corruption and governance reforms. In 2015, she formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to further contribute to governance and administration.
