Saint Avia (The Jailed Women) Artist: Unknown
Saint Avia of Sicily was a virgin martyr, born blind but later cured, was unfortunately was prisoned for clinging onto her Christian views and beliefs. While Saint Avia was prisoned and serving time, she received communion, a major sacrement from the Virgin Mary. In this piece of art, Saint Avia is sculpted peering out a jail cell window, it appears as she looks sad and waiting for the time to pass. Saint Avia is sculpted out of stone and was created in 1500, France. -

St. Catherine with Lily
The Nun Artist, named Plautilla Nelli from the time periods of 1524 and 1588 was best known for her artwork in spiritual settings like this one depicts named, “St. Catherine with Lily” used was oil based paints. In the art it depicts a women praying, with holes in the hands, holding a cross. Plautilla uses symbolism in her art and it does indeed depict feminism. The feminism is represented by the feminine energy she brought to Art in The Renaissance time period. -
