Betty Glengarry
Betty Glengarry moves into town. This happens because Betty was sent to live with her grandparents. These are Annabelle's next door neighbor. After having a few encounters things start to get serious between Betty and Annabelle. -
Betty threatens to hit Annabelle with a stick.
Betty say to Annabelle that if she doesn't bring her something from her home, she will hit her with a stick. She threatens that she will hurt Henry and James too. -
Betty kills quail
Betty kills a quail, after she is gently touching it with Annabelle's younger brothers. She tells them to leave, and cracks the birds neck in half. After doing so, Toby talks Betty into her place which causes Betty to fall into poison ivy. Which then Annabelle and her mom has to make a remedy to cure Betty. -
Ruth gets hit in the eye with a rock
Annabelle, Ruth, and Mr, Ansel are all standing at the edge of the playground, and Ruth mysteriously gets hit the eye with a rock, and loses her eye. This happens because Ruth didn't like Mr. Ansel's horses so she stays back as Annabelle goes to the horses. While Annabelle is by the horses a rock comes flying from behind the hill to the right of Ruth and hits her straight in the eye. -
James cuts his forehead on a sharpened wire.
When Annabelle, Henry and James are coming home from school a few days after the incident and somehow James gets cut on a wire. When they go back later that day with their father the wire is gone, though they can see where the wire was. Later in the story Toby tells Annabelle that he saw Betty and Andy sharpening the wire on the turtle stone. -
Annabelle and her parents go to the Glengarry's to talk.
They do this because after Annabelle confesses to her family they want to talk to the Glengarry's about what has been going on with Betty and Annabelle. They do this because Annabelle tells her family about all of the horrible things that Betty did to her. Betty ends up denying everything that Annabelle says. -
Mrs Taylor comes over
During the day, Annabelle asks Mrs. Taylor if she can go in the belfry to see about what Betty saw. Mrs Taylor comes over and talks about the belfry and how it was locked, and how Mrs. Taylor has the only key. -
Betty and Toby go missing
After Annabelle's family and Mrs. Taylor's talk Betty and Toby can't be found. Many think that Toby kidnapped Betty, though they have no evidence to prove this theory. Many people are focused on finding Betty though Aunt Lilly is worried about Toby. -
Annabelle brings toby to the barn
Annabelle brings Toby to the barn so he can hide. She brings him some soup, coffee and a biscuit. She also grabs the book Treasure island. And while she was packing she packed scissors and she asks Toby to cut his hair... Then though she has to go and tells Toby to cut his beard himself. -
Annabelle goes searching by herself to find Toby
Annabelle goes looking for Toby very late at night and finds him at his shack. Annabelle then forces Toby to come back to her farm so that he is safe. On the way back, she lets out the horses to make sure no one came out to do the chore.
