  • The First Navigation Act

    The First Navigation Act
    This act required all trade between England and the American Colonies to only be carried out between British traders. This made it so only British ships could trade through American ports. This reduced the trade between North Carolina planters and Merchants. This lead to smuggling.
  • Second Act of Navigation

    Second Act of Navigation
    This still restricted the trade. This act also promoted self-sufficiency of the British. It decreased dependence on other nations besides Britain for goods. This still flattened trade and hurt both England and Americas's economy.
  • French and Indian War Ends

    French and Indian War Ends
    Also know as The Seven Years' War. The war was ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The Native Americans fought the British for their own land. Both the French and British "claimed" the upper Ohio river valley, while the Native Americans made alliances with both sides. These disputes and colonial unrest lead to the American Revolution.

    One of the taxes that King George put on the colonies. This raised taxes on printed products and required printed documents to be put on special paper from England. This made it more costly to produce these products, while all the profits went to the crown. This started to create anger among the colonists. Some started resenting the king and what he stood for.

    A deadly riot that occurred on King Street in Boston, Massachusetts. It started as a street brawl until British soldiers showed up. 5 colonists were killed in the riot. This united the colonies against Britain. This created desire for independence and left the dead colonists as martyrs.

    An Act of Parliament to reduce the amount of tea in the British East India Company's warehouse. However, this act granted the British East India Company to have a monopoly on tea sales. This started to create anger among the colonists. Some started resenting the king and what he stood for. This also lead to the Boston Tea Party

    A political protest that occurred at Griffin's Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts. Americans were mad at the British for "Taxation without representation" on tea. Americans dumped 342 British tea chests into the harbor. This was the first big act of defiance against the British. This event lead to the start of the war at Lexington and Concord.
