The rumour of witchcraft about her arises. -
The girls agree on not telling anyone about the communing with the devil
Abigail threatens to kill them if they mention anything more. -
Reverend John Hale arrives to determine if Betty is bewitched!! :o
Parris has sent for Reverend Hale, who is an expert on witchcraft. He questions Abigail about dancing in the forest and she denies that the dancing was related to witchcraft. -
Accusation
The girls start accusing people of being witches. -
Mary Warren tells the Proctors that Elizabeth has been accused of witchcraft
The Proctor's servant returns from Salem with news about Elizabeth and reports that now 39 people stand accused. -

Act II

Reverend Hale visits the Proctors
Hale asks John Proctor to recite the Ten Commandments, he does it but forgets the commandment about adultery. -
Elizabeth is arrested
Proctor tells Mary that she has to testify in court and expose Abigail. She refuses, saying that Abigail will kill her if she does. -
Court in session
Mary tells the court that the girls are lying. Elizabeth is spared for a time because she is pregnant. -

Abigail and the girls at court
Abigail denies Mary’s testimony. The girls accuse Mary of bewitching them. -
Confession
John Proctor confesses his affair with Abigail and explains that Elizabeth fired her when she discovered it. -
Elizabeth's lie
Elizabeth lies to protect Proctor's honor, saying that he has not been unfaithful to her. -
Proctor is arrested
Mary accuses Proctor of being a witch, he rages and is finally arrested. -
Elizabeth persuades Proctor to confess
Proctor confesses to witchcraft and signs the paper. -

Proctor is hanged
When John finds out that they will nail the confession paper on the church door, he tears it up. Proctor and the other prisoners are led to the gallows.
