Winston Churchill became prime minister as Neville Chamberlain resigned at the start of WWII. He inherited the position shortly before the Battle of Britain. He was forced to rally his country to prepare for a large bombardment on military and civilian lands. he had to prevent Hitler from demoralizing his people which had not been done ever to that point. -

Pearl Harbor Bombing
On an early morning in the beginning of December in Hawaii hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the navel base Pearl Harbor. The attack lasted about 2 hours and they destroyed 20 navel ships and over 300 aircraft. Over 2,000 American soldiers and sailors were killed and over 1,000 more were wounded in the attack. This is what brought the United States into WWII -
Loses Election
Winston Churchill suffered an awful lose to the Labor Party just after helping lead the ally forces to a victory against the Nazis. One of the reasons for his defeat was that his party carried the blame for the rise of Hitler and the Nazis. Also the politics changed during the war, people no longer voted by their party as much.
