    Eli Whitney patented the cotton gin, a machine that revolutionized the production of cotton by speeding up the process of removing seeds from cotton fiber. This ended up increasing slavery in the south.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    Congress reached a boiling point after Missouri's 1819 request for admission to the Union as a slave state, which threatened to upset the balance between slave states and free states. To keep the peace, congress created a two part compromise, granting Missouri's request but also admitting Maine as a free state. It also passed an amendment that drew an imaginary line across the former Louisiana Territory, establishing a boundary between free and slave regions.

    The Tariff of 1828 well better known as the Tariff of Abomination passed the House of Representatives, 105 to 94. The Tariff sought to protect the Northern and Western agricultural products from competition with foreign imports; the resulting of tax on foreign doods that would raise the cost of living in the south and would cut into the profits of New England's industrials. The President John Quicy Adams approved the bill. Also Andrew Jackson was elected as a Democrat president os the U.S.

    The Liberator was an anti-slavery newspaper published by William Lloyd Garrison in Boston, Massachusetts. The slaveholders in the south demanded the end of the paper and the state of Georgia offered a $5,000 reward for Garisson's capture. The Liberator was a mighty force from the beginning and became the most influential newspaper in the antislavery crusade.

    The Senator Henry Clay introduced series of resolution on the 1850. The compromise of 1850 consists of five lwas passed in september on 1850 that dealt with the issue of slavery. On 1849 California requested permission to enter the Union as a Free State. The potentially upsetting the balance between the slave and free states in the the U.S senate. During the timer back then there was a lot of disagreements.

    Uncle Tm's Cabin by Harriet Stowe, was an anti-slavery book that had a major influence on the way the American public viewed slavery. It was reported that when Abraham Lincoln met Stowe he said, "So this is the little lady who made this big war." Leading people to believe that her book had a direct influence on the civil war.

    The Secession as it applies to the outbreak of the American Civil War, comprises the series events that happened on December 20, 1860 and extended through June 8 of the next yeah. When 11 states in the Lower And Upper South severed their ties with the Union. Also, the border state of Virginia, Alkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina joined the dovernmen, which then moved its capital to Richond, Virginia. However, the Union was divided as approximately on geographic lines.

Also, when the President Abraham Lincoln announced the plans to resupply the fort the Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard bombarded Fort Sumter.
