William Whewell

    William Whewell was born from John Whewell and Elizabeth Bennison. He was the oldest of the seven children.

    William won a type of scholarship for his excellence in mathematics.

    During his time teaching at Trinity, Whewell wrote several books; trying to advance the mathematics at Cambridge; with his first being written in 1819. Almost ten years later, at 1828 he went broader to mineralogy and philosophy topics.

    William served as a professor of mineralogy at Trinity. He would be a professor in this field until 1832. He was also a professor of moral philosophy (1838-1855), college master (1841-1866), and also vice chancellor of the university in 1842

    In June 1841, Whewell became engaged to Cordelia Marshall. They married several months later in Cumberland
