William's birth
He was born in Stratford upon Avon, in England. He was one of the eight children born to John Shakespeare, a well-to-do glove-maker and leather worker, and his wife, Mary Arden, an heiress from a wealthy family. -
His marriage
William married a farmer’s daughter called Anne Hathaway. They had three children together – a daughter called Susanna, and twins, Judith and Hamnet. -
His early plays
His early plays were primarily comedies and histories and are regarded as some of the best works produced in these genres. -
William's moving to London- early career
He moved to London in the late 1580s and became a successful actor, playwright. By 1592, there is evidence Shakespeare earned a living as an actor and a playwright in London and possibly had several plays produced. -

The Globe
The original globe theatre was built in 1599 by the Lord Chamberlain's Men,but it destroyed by a fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. -
Hamlet
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is a tragedy. It is Shakespeare's longest play. Set in Denmark, the play depicts Prince Hamlet and his attempts to exact revenge against his uncle, Claudius, who has murdered Hamlet's father in order to seize his throne and marry Hamlet's mother. -
King Lear
The aging King Lear decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, allotting each a portion in proportion to the eloquence of her declaration of love. -
His retirement
Disaster struck in 1613 when a cannon shot set fire to the roof of the Globe and burned it down! It wasn’t long after that Shakespeare retired from the theatre. He left from London back to Stratford upon Avon -
His death
He died due to natural causes at the age of 52 in his home town.
