There were two monarchs during Shakespeare's time. When Shakespeare was born in 1564, Queen Elizabeth 1 had been on the throne for six years. Queen Elizabeth 1 was the queen of England for 45 years. Her reign ended on 24 March 1603. King James took the throne in 1603,13 years before Shakespeare's death. King James reign ended in 1625. -

Shakespeare Goes to School
Shakespeare enters King's New School, an excellent grammar school in Stratford attended by the sons of civil servants like his father. Boys mainly enter the school around the age of five, but since there are no official records, its impossible to know exactly when Shakespeare started his education. -
Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway Marry
In 1852 Shakespeare who at the time was 18 married Anne Hathaway who was 26. On this day they paid a 40 pound bond for their marriage license in Stratford-upon-Avon. -
First Child Born
Six months after their marriage, the Shakespeare's first child, Susanna, is born and baptized. -
The Birth of Shakespeare's Twins
Twin children were born to Anne and William. They were named Hamnet and Judith. Hamnet died of unknown causes at the age of 11. Little is known about Judith's life. -

Because Shakespeare was wealthy thanks to his theater work and shrewd investments, Shakespeare bought New Place, the second-largest house in Stratford. -
