William was born September 19th, 1911, in Newquay, Cornwall England. His parents are Mildred and Alec Golding. -
Grammer school
At the early age of 12, he attended Marlborough Royal Free Grammar School, where his dad taught. -
Education
Educated at Brasenose college at Oxford University, in 1930. Planning to Follow the study of English litature. -
Teaching
he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. In 1935 Golding took a position teaching English and philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury. -
Spouse
William married Ann Brookfield, an analytical chemist, on 30 September 1939. They went on to have two kids, David (born September 1940) and Judith (born July 1945). -
Royal Navy
In 1940 William Golding temporarily abandoned his profession to join the Royal Navy and fight in World War II for 5 years -
