Golding Tires to Write His First Novel
While attending Marlborough Grammar School, where Williams father worked, at just 12 years old he attempted to write his first novel. He was unsuccessful and because of his frustrations, he became a bully to his peers. -
Golding Attends Brasenose College
Until he went on to college, Golding attended the school his father taught at. He went to school in Oxford at Brasenose College and wen to to study two years of study and on his third switched to the literature program. He began writting poems that were published as part of Macmillan's Contemporary Poets series and then went on to graduate in 1935. -
Golding Persues Several Careers
After college, Golding went on to try acting, writng and producing in for a small theater in London. He did these things to help pay bills along teaching. -
Golding Married Ann Brookfield
William married Ann Brookfield. They later went on to have two children, Judy and David. -
Golding Joined the Miliary
After his marriage, Golding went on to the Navy for 5 years. His time in the military showed him hwo inhumane people can be which later helped him write his famous novel, Lord of The Flies. -
Golding Returns To Teaching
After his military service, Golding returned to teaching and began writing again. He continued to teach until 1961. -

Goldings famous Novel was finally published after 21 rejections. His experiences in the military, teaching and as a child helped him write the story. -

The same year Golding retired from teaching Lord of the Flies was made a film. Peter Brook made this happen. -
Golding Receives the Nobel Prize
When Golding was 73 years old, two decades after the his book inspired a film, he was rewarded the Nobel Prize for literature. -

Golding was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. His literature was now being acknowledged by the queen, when it began with 21 rejections. -
Goldings Death
Golding went on to live a quiet life. He lived in Cornwall with his wife Ann then eventually died of a heart attack. Leaving his legacy and writing to speak for him.
