This is created by Congress. They are charged providing solutions to the declining in food fishes and to push promoting fish culture. -
Yellowstone National Park is Established
In 1872,Yellowstone National Park became the first National Park in the United States. This park was created to preserve wildlife and natural resources in parks and forests. If this park was not a national park it would be owned by a private companies and would look very different. -
Jay Darling (1876-1962)
He was the designer of the very fist migratory bird hunting stamp. -
Hugh Bennett (1881-1960)
He was the first person to take over and run the Soil Conservation Service. He was known as the "father of soil conservation". -
An Independent Agency
The U.S. Fish Commission becomes an independent agency. In doing this, it ends the administrative relationships with Smithsonian Institution. -
Commissioner of Bureau
George M. Bowers is now the commissioner of the Bureau of Fisheries. -
The Lacey Act
This act is known as a conservation law in the United States. This act regulates the shipping of illegally taken or killed animals. Without the Lacey Act we wouldn't be able to preserve many species of animals in the United States. -
A New Monument
The American Fisheries Society places a granite monument to Baird at the Woods Hole Lab. This monument is still there today. -
The National Audubon Society
This society protects birds in the wild that would not be alive without it.This was formed in the honor of John James Audubon. -
National Park Service
The national park service was created to care for the national parks all around the United States. This service is responsible for 330 protected parks. -
The Migratory Bird Conservation Act
This act was a start to help protect migratory birds. This act is also known as the Norbeck-Andresen Act. -
The Migratory Hunting Stamp Act
People must purchase special stamps before they can go out and hunt migratory birds.The money made on people purchasing stamps goes toward protecting migratory birds. -
The Pittman-Robertson Act
This act creates money by putting tax on hunting equipment and ammunition. The money collected on taxing these items goes toward managing and restoring animal habitats. -
Establishing a Program
A program is established, recognizing North America's four migratory bird flyways. Their goal was to improve the management of migratory waterfowl hunting. -
Two New Bureaus
The Fish and Wildlife Act decided to make two bureaus, they are the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries and the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife. -
The Wildlife Refuge System
This system was created to provide safe and secure places for animals all around the United States. These secure places are managed by the U.S. Wildlife Service. -
The Endangered Species Act
In passing this act it started to help manage species of wildlife that were endangered and threatened. -
Change in Names
The Bureau of Commercial Fisheries is changed to the Department of Commerce as well being renamed the National Marine Fisheries Service. -
Nongame Wildlife Act
This implemented plans and programs for non-game fish and wildlife.
