Thomas Kahn was born July 18 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio to a Samuel Louis Kahn and Minette Kahn.

Kahn graduated with a BS in Physics summa cum laude in 1943 from Harvard University. Kahn returned to Harvard University after the war and graduated with a master’s degree in Physics and a doctorate in 1949. In 1948, Kahn was offered a 3 year fellowship, after completing this fellowship Harvard appointed Kuhn as an instructor. After being an instructor for a year he was promoted to assistant professor. -
In 1958, Kuhn was promoted to associate professor and given tenure at the University of California at Berkeley. He was also doing a 1 year fellowship at Stanford University. This is where he wrote a significant part of his work “ The Structure of Science Revolutions”.

In 1962, Kuhn released his work “The Structure of Science Revolutions” where Kuhn first described the paradigm shift. Kuhn died in at the age of 73, on June 17, 1996, in Cambridge Massachusetts. He was suffering from throat and lung cancer. -
