Whitney Elizabeth houston also known as "Nippy", was born on August 9th 1963 in Newark, New Jersey to loving parents John and Cissy Houston. Growing up Whitney was a very religious child, attending church regularly. At the young age of 6 she started to develop a singing voice.

Whitneys Debut

From ages 0-12 Whitney continued to develop a strong voice. After tons of practise Whitney had her debut at her family church. The church is New Hope Baptist Church located in Newark, New Jersey,Whitneys home town.

First Tour

Shortly after the album was released Whitney was sent on a small tour. She started as an opener making $11,500 a night. While she was on this tour her album was breaking sales worldwide also knock Aretha Franklin from number one on the R&B charts.

Michael Zager

In the year of 1080 Whitney was offered a contract by Michael Zager. Whitneys partents who have a huge impact on her career turned down the offer claiming Whitney was too young. Whitney wasn't upset with her parents decision.

Arista Records

Gerry Griffith, director of Arista Records became very interested in Whitney 2 years after he first heard her sing in 1981. He informed the founder and producer of the label Clive Davis who at first misjudged Whitney. Whitney performed a private concert for Arista records and got a lot of imput from her parents on whether or not to sign with Arista or Elektra. After lots of decision making Whitney became an Arista Records recording artist in April 1983 at the age of 18.

First Album

Whitney's album "Whitney Houston" took 24 months to make and was finally released in Febuary, 1985. The album broke sales worldwide also knocking Aretha Franklin from #1 on the R&B charts. The album went triple platinum selling over 3 million copies.

100th Anniversary of the Statue Of Liberty

On July 4th, 1986 Whitney was asked to perform at the anniverary of the Statue of Liberty in New York City.

American Music Awards

Whitney attended the American Music Awards presentation hosted by Diana Ross. That night she took home 5 awards and Janet Jackson only recieved 2. It was a very successful night for Whitney

30th Grammy Awards

Whitney attended the 30th Grammy awards hoping to take home something. She was nominated for 3 awards and ended up winning her second Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"

Super Bowl Performance

Whitney Houston performed at the Buffalo Bills vs. New York Giants Super Bowl XXV game. Whitney sang infront of 100 million tv viewers and dedicated the song she sang to the troops that had fought the Perisian War 10 days before.

Engagement

Shortly after Whitneys first miscarriage her boyfriend Bobby Brown proposed to her. Her family threw her a bride to be party at Righa Royal Hotel in Manhattan.

Wedding

Whitney walked down the isle linked arms with her father John Houston wearing a $30,000 dress on July 18th,1992. Instead of recieving gifts the newly weds asked for the guests to make donations to the "Whitney Houston Foundation For Children". Over half a million dollars got raised that night.

The Bodyguard

"The Bodyguard" premiered on Monday, November 23rd.1992 making $400 million dollars. Later that year there was a soundtrack relased for the movie which brought in an additional $24 million.
