Our beloved sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln, dies. He was assasinated by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. on April 9, 1865. -

This is the day the Civil War ended. Robert E. Lee of the Confederate surrendered. The Union won, so there was supposed to be no more slavery. -

Slavery is officially abolished in the United States. Even though the law says that you cannot have slaves, many people still kept slaves secretly from the government.
