    The 1st community case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Canada as a result of someone that just came back from China. This caused the virus to spread among the community in Vancouver and other cities in BC.
  • Calgary, Alberta

    Calgary, Alberta
    A woman from Calgary was the 1st case of COVID-19 in AB. She had come back from a cruise ship trip in Mexico on Feb 21 but didn't start to Isolate till Feb.27 and notified the public health Mar.7th but she had been to several places in the community prior to showing symptoms without knowing she had the virus. Because of her two ATB branches in the NW community of Calgary had to be closed to help reduce the spread.

    The Premier of Alberta Jason Kenny, announced that to reduce the spread of COVID-19 all schools will be closed till further notice. By this time number of cases of COVID-19 had risen to 17. Three cases in Edmonton and 14 cases in Calgary.

    The AB govt redirect funding for schools to COVID-19 response/health sector. This caused some workers in the education sector to loose their jobs. The Malls in Calgary were also limited to essential services only. Things like hair salons and spas were closed to prevent the spread of the virus. AB had confirmed 621 cases of COVID-19 in total

    By the end of March, Dr. Hinshaw said AB has 754 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 9 people had died. 453 people were in the Calgary zone, 187 in Edmonton zone, 51 in Northern zone.
