Ever since Arnie was born, they knew something was wrong. When he was a few years old, he had blood work in and they discovered he had a mental illness. -
Albert Grape Commits Suicide
Gilbert's dad hung himself at approximently the same time Gilbert had recess. Gilbert was going to go check on him, but had to clean up the mess he made from peeing his pants. -
Gilbert's mom begins eating and never stops
Mrs. Grape, mortified by her husbands death, eats to try and ease the pain. Years later, she's barely able to move, and the floor below her is caving in. She eats until the day she dies. -
Gilbert starts seeing Mrs. Carver
When Gilbert was just in highschool, Mrs. Carver picked him. Once tuesday in June they hid his car in her garage, and she made cookies and lemonade. This went on for several weeks until they kissed in August. It continued on for seven more years. -
Mr. Lamson's Grocery Store is dying
The new and fancy "Food Land" grocery store has taken most of Mr.Lamson's business. Gilbert says he would rather die then go there. -
Arnie goes to jail
When momma finds out that ARnie went to jail for hanging off the water tower, she goes out in public for the first time in seven years to get her baby boy. -
Gilbert first sees Becky
Once Gilbert see's this beautiful, fasinating girl, he can't stop thinking about her. -
Lance Dodge comes to town
Former classmate of Gilbert, and now a famous news broad caster comes to celebrate the fourth of July. Him and GIlbert also have lunch together. -
Arnie's Eighteenth Birthday Party
Arnie lives to his eighteenth birthday when he wasnt supposed to live past age 10. His mom get's to see him turn eighteen, and he get's to party. -
Momma dies
Shortly after her son's eighteenth birthday, Gilbert's mom dies. She died silenlty in her bed the night after the party. -
They burn the house down
Gilbert and his siblings know getting their dead mother out of the house will cause a sceen. They also know Momma would't like that. So they take all their stuff out, and burn the house down. They know it is the right thing to do, and it brings them all closer together as a family.
