Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) was an American industrialist who gained a fortune in the steel industry. He worked in a cotton factory as a kid before rising to the position of superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1859. He invested in many ventures, including iron and oil companies, and made his first fortune when he was in his 30s. In 1870, he entered the steel business. In 1901, he sold the Steel Company for $480 million. -
