After the word of gold in California in 1851 the Chinese gold seekers arrived in California in great numbers. Soon, they took up about a fifth of the entire population in mining areas. -
Chinese Discrimination
By the 1870's, the Chinese faced discrimination and outright violence because the Americans claimed the gold was there right to mine.
