  • First Words Said About Women's Lacrosse

    The first words said about Women's Lacrosse was said by Louisa Lumsdem,"It is a wonderful game. Beautiful and graceful." She said this when she saw it being played in Canada by Caughnawaya Nation and Montreal Club 1884.
  • First Women's Organized Lacrosse Game

    The first organized women's lacrosse was play in 1980 in St. Leonard's School In Scotland. Rosabelle Sinclair was apart of this team that was the first team to ever play a women's lacrosse game.
  • Amount of Players on the Field

    The game first started out with only have 8 players at a time, but that would be very challenging as the level and speed improved. The game quickly changed to 10 players in 1895 then to 12 players in 1913, this is how many players play on the field in today's game.
  • Trying to Establish Women's Lacrosse

    After Rosabelle Sinclair came to American, she tried to start women's lacrosse but unfortunately would not workout. This was trying to be established in 1914 at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.

    Rosabelle Sinclaire attended St Leonards in Scotland in the early 1900s to later come back to American to start the first women's lacrosse team. The first USA women's lacrosse that was established was in 1926 at Bryn Mater School in Baltimore, Maryland.

    During the time before equipment women's and men's lacrosse was played with the same rules but men's lacrosse was greatly evolving at this time. Women's lacrosse still to this day uses less and less equipment than the men's game does but that doesn't stop the level of contact that happens during the game.

    The women would require to wear a long sleeve blouse with a pleated jumper. This would be very uncomfortable to wear nonetheless playing a sport in. In today's sport players wear skirts and razor back jersey or you can throw in different kinds of uniforms like shorts or t-shirt jersey now.

    After the first lacrosse team was started, an organization was established named USA Women's Lacrosse Association was started in 1931. This was the start of the biggest organization that is used for women's lacrosse, they help make new rules and equipment for the sport to use in new games and practice.
  • USA First Tour

    The USA sent a team to England for their first ever tour of women's lacrosse. Over the next couple of years the sport would continue to grow all over the world, then the USA would start sending more and more teams to Australia and England for exhibition tours.
  • IFWLA

    With the huge growth of women's lacrosse across the world would start the International Federation of Women's Lacrosse. This federation would help kick start the World Cup for many years to come.
  • World Cup Coaching Staff

    The first head coach for the USA coaching staff was Jackie Pitts with the assistant coach was Josie Harper. The USA would go one to win the World Cup for women's lacrosse for the first time on England soil against England 13-0.
  • FIL

    With the IFWLA being established in the 1970s, later would come the FIL which would host all of the world championships events. Many years after the association was established the FIL wold host the very first world championship event in 1982.
  • Amount of Women Joining the sport

    The female players are around 51,000 that attend Division 1, 2, 3 in the NCAA. Across the the States along 40 more colleges added women's lacrosse to the NCAA.
  • Equipment and Field

    The women would play with no protection in the game until 2005 to protect from the ball hitting a player in the face. In 2006 hard boundaries were added to keep the ball within the field.
  • World Cup Bring in New Teams

    In 2005, at the World Cup a new team was introduced and was allowed to play against the other teams with their team being one of the oldest of it's kind. This team was the Haudenosaunee team was the first team to play from the Indigenous people of the Americans.
  • More Rules being added

    In 2017 the shot clock was implemented in the college game to help pick up the speed of the game so one team couldn't hold on to the ball. Along with this another rule was added a couple years before this allowing defenders to move freely through the crease.
  • Professional League

    The start of the Professional Women's Lacrosse league took off in 2018. There are four teams that would play along in this league and the teams would be the Brave, Command, Fight, Fire, and Pride.
  • Athletes Unlimited

    With Covid this shut down the league that players would play in after college. Athletes Unlimited picked up women's lacrosse in 2021 and adding more players with more skills and making it more of a fun game to watch because it would entertain the fans watching. This would make the views and people learning about the sport sky rocket along with the amount of players trying to play in this after college.
  • National Championship

    In 2022, North Carolina and Boston College had a thriller 12-11 in front of a sellout crowd. This was incredible because this was the sixth-largest crowd in the National Championship game, and the most viewed and broadcasted game ever.
  • UNC Dynasty

    The University of North Carolina is a dynasty that is amazing to watch because of the chemistry. UNC finished this season with an undefeated season with 22-0 whiling winning the National Championship and winning their 6 straight ACC Championship.
